Racism remains one of the most rooted and painful impasses of our time. Why is this so? And what does this have to do with me? Renowned teacher and author Ruth King will explore an understanding of our individual and collective racial conditioning and its social proliferation. She'll address how mindfulness provides a foundation for inner confidence, stability, and courage that foster wise conversation and reconciliation.
Ruth King is a teacher in the Insight Meditation Tradition as well as an Emotional Wisdom author and life coach. She is the author of Healing Rage: Women Making Inner Peace Possible (Gotham, 2007) and Mindful of Race:Transforming Racism from the Inside Out (Sounds True, 2018). She is a guiding teacher at Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC, and the founder of Mindful Members Insight Meditation Community in Charlotte, NC. King managed training and organizational development divisions at Levi Strauss and Intel Corporation where she coached leaders on transformative leadership, workplace trauma, and diversity awareness. Currently recognized as a mindful mentor, trainer of trainers, and consultant to consultants, King works with teams to foster environments of genuine inclusion, emotional well-being, and mindful leadership. King has a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, CA (1992), where she also served as adjunct faculty in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology. King currently resides in Charlotte, NC, with her life partner Dr. Barbara Riley and cat, Mr. Socks.
